Fishery production

As of 2019, Niger State produced 46,500 metric tonnes of fish. This highlights the state’s significant role in fish farming and its contribution to Nigeria’s aquaculture sector.

Potential Irrigable Areas

Niger State has a significant potential for irrigation, with an estimated 1,313,004 hectares of irrigable land.

Livestock Population

As of 2019, Niger State’s livestock population was as follows: Sheep: 1,621,756 Goats: 2,089,737 Cattle: 2,512,431 Poultry: 18,556,201 These figures reflect the state’s strong presence in livestock farming, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s agricultural sector

Current Area Under Irrigation

As of 2019, Niger State had 328,251 hectares of land under irrigation.This indicates significant agricultural potential, with room for further expansion to boost productivity and food security.

Annual rainfall

Niger State experiences an annual rainfall ranging from 1,000 mm to 1,500 mm, with variations depending on the region. The state generally has a tropical climate, with a rainy season from May to October and a dry season from November to April.
